Gizmodo on iPhone: “Don’t buy”

Today Gizmodo reduced it’s verdict on the iPhone from “wait” to “don’t buy“, after Apple’s support for the device took a turn for the worst with the whole ‘bricked iPhone‘ problem.

It’s not so much that Apple aren’t supporting third party development for the iPhone, but rather the fact that their iPhones are being turned into ‘iBricks‘ by their software updates, and Apple is refusing to fix them. It’s especially not cool, because everything is software-based, and all you’d have to do is flash the iPhone’s memory.

While I certainly don’t accept what they did, I have two questions:
1.- Is this true? Are they actually refusing to service these iPhones? I have a strong feeling that this will change in the near future. I’m pretty sure there are waaaay too many hacked iphones out there for them to ignore.
2.- Does the ‘brickage’ occur to hacked iPhones to work on another network, or that installed third party apps? Both? I can’t seem to find a straight answer on that, there’s just too much speculation going on still.

Hey Rodrigo,

1) In a press release Apple did indeed say they would not be fixing the bricked iphones. I agree with you though.

2) I think if any tampering is going on, Apple is threatening it’s users ‘brickage’ might occur.
