LG Chocolate phones suffering inverse displays and white-outs

Hey my phone does the White-out display too, I sent it in for repair, does anyone know what causes that?

where do you send it off for repair and do you need any receipts or packaging

I also need mine repired…where can I send it to..
I have tried over 2 weeks to get any answers…

Nice way to stop people calling. Is not supported in the USA, that bites…I never knew it wasn’t made in the USA.

Mine does exactly the same thing.. white outs, and the colour is inverted… it makes the picture of my dog I have as my background look like some demon harpy.

So infuriating!!

apparently it is due to a broken “flex cable” that joins the screen to the other internal hardware of the phone, i can imagine that some of these cables were made faulty and after so many ‘flexes’ the wires inside start to break apart, causing bad transfer of data. these cables are relatively cheap to purchase but pretty tricky to install

yup… mine is offically super screwed up. Not only do I get the white screen… I also get a frozen screen where it has my background stay even though I open up my phone. Please let the rest of us know how much this repair cost. Bahhh this is so stupid!!

omg! mine does that too! it is only recently that my phone has done that! I have absolutely NO idea what has happened…i have dropped it a couple of times…does anyone know where to get it repaired? And also…does it cost to have it repaired? Because my sisters Nokia 6111 was playing up a few weeks ago, and she sent it in to get it repaired, and it didnt cost a penny! dis fone is sh1t!! had it for 3 months and its f**kd up bigtime! screen kips goin blank.colour goes on and off..keypad feezes…its a right pain..i want to get it repaired and then get rid of it as soon as possible…some help please?

this phone is the biggest piece of crap ive ever come across in my life! ive had it for 3 months and its been playing up like th@ (with the white screen) for a little while now but 2day it just absolutley chucked it : ( im so pissed off! I think all modern cellphones are built to last only a short time to keep everyone buying them,it would mke sense to build them from something that wont fall apart or become discoloured after six months but it also makes sense to keep making money out of gullible people who get taken in by all the marketing hype and want the latest model….. after all we only want to make calls and text, if i want to take a photograph i use my camera the quality is better and always will be,and yes i also have a whiteout screened frozen and sometimes psychedelic LG Chocolate and i think its the best piece of crap ive bought in ages

Mine whites out and the screen does this weird thing where it goes fuzzy- like a tv without signal. It’s been doing it for two months.

The problem with the unit is a flex that connects the main PCB to the sub PCB its a very common fault with the unit.

Mine has been whiting out for like a month - sent it off through fone 4 u and now they are blaming atwer damage when it hasnt even been wet! which is a load of rubbish as i know thats its the circiut board ANGRY! x

mines been doing the inverted colour thing, the white screen, split screen and the fuzzy screen at the bottom of the 2 split screens at the top …really annoying! if anyone knows any websites on how to fix this yourself please let me know

ugh, this is my second chocolate, and its doing the same thing the first one did. you should be able to take it in and get a free one, if you didn’t get it wet. there’s a sticker inside the battery that is red and white, if it’s all red, that means you got it wet and thats probably the reason why your phone isnt working. if it’s red and white checkers, then that means they should just give you a free phone. but still, all my contacts and pictures and everything are on this phone. i hate chocolates. my phone is doing the white out thing too, and my camera stopped working months ago. i’ve only had this phone for 6 months. i hate chocolates so much. they’re a piece of crap.

Yeah, my sis got one of these today. If only we read this first. She got rid of mobile 3 weeks ago cus that broke, and she been let down again. I hope LG goes bust.

yh i always get the white out and i did have the colour thing goin on aswell took it to back to the carphone wearhouse an they had it back to me within 2weeks………but tonight the keypad is totally broke it wont let me enter anything

my chocolate has done it all, it’s been broken in so many ways, and continues to keep on breaking, my screen goes white and things always go wrong, i have had to send it in and get it fixed 5 times, and telus still doesn’t get the hint that the phone is a piece.

Mine did the same thing after I dropped it. All white screen. I went to a phone dealer in a mall that also fixed phones and he told me $80.00.

I asked him to leave the case open (because the screws are impossible to get out) and not to fix it. You can order the new cable on ebay for about $10.00. Repair4MobilePhone.org has manuals for almost any phone. Seems worth trying before spending the money to fix it or the hassle of getting a new phone.

If you don’t want to fix you own you can go to the mall shops or online at cellulardr.com.

in about 3 weeks i get a new one.

its probalby that your batterypack was exhausted.
thats cause’s a videocard crash.

if you dont have fallingdamage on your mobile you get a new one…

As Hambo has mentioned… the problem is the flex ribbon cable… you can buy on ebay mayb $10 and if you watch the video, chocolate LG flex ribbon cable, on You Tube, if will show you how to replace…

hey there every 1 , i have this phone also and it is very simple to fix this problem !!!! go on ebay and search for an lg kg800 ribbon cable or flex cable , then once you have the cable go on you tube and watch the vids on hoe to replave it , once you have it in your l will be fine for aniother 6 months till the cable wears out ! an anoying problem but it can be fixed

Oh man, mine does that too!! When I slide up the screen it either turns white or splits into quarters, the bottom two being black n fuzzy n the top two crazy mini versions of my screen saver. I’m so annoyed. So where is the solution? I didn’t take out any insurance on mine, wander if they will still have it off me…?

i replaced the ribbon cable in mine…the screens not blank anymore but now when i put the sim card in it says ‘insert sim card’ :S ermmm…anyone what went wrong and if this is fixable…?

well i see im not the only one in the world with that going on. the screen stays frizzy and every once in a while it will fix for about 30 seconds and then its so frizzy you cant even distinquish what is on your phone, ive had mine about three months and it just started this about a week ago. i mean the phone was pretty cool the day i got it im not gonna lie…but, now its just wasting money for ringtones, music, backgrounds and stuff like that so when i get a new phone i have to buy more. crap crap crap

I stupidly didn’t read reviews on the Chocolate Phone and sent off for one via Carphone Warehouse, now I’ve read it. I’m very concerned and worried as I have read some reviews which say their Chocolate is fine and lasted well, but 70% of the reviews say it goes white and freezes and everything, if it occurs when I open the phone I will send it back immediatly. Disappointed that I didn’t get a Sony Ericson, now.

i have an lg chocolate my phone today while i was texting just turned off and suddenly had a white screen. i cant fix it no matter what i try and i can still feel vibrations from calls cause i had it on vibrate vut thats it. what do i do?

I’ve found a couple of makeshift solutions to the temporary problem. Power cycle the phone, removing the battery seems to work more often than simply turning it off and on. Also attaching it to the AC supply seems to have worked some magic a couple of times. Rapidly (but gently) opening and closing the phone works occasionally too. I have no idea why these work when the fault is in the flex cable but they do. I’ve had white-outs, inverted colours, two small screens covering the top half, and an offset y-axis but all have been fixed using these methods.

p.s. Smashing the phone off the floor doesn’t seem to work too well. :d

The Story of my Hot Pink LG Chocolate:

First texting did not function properly. It would not let me read texts half the time unless I turned the phone on then off. Then the display went inverse. Picture messaging has never worked. The grand finale was one day the phone randomly shut off and hasn’t turned on since. I ordered a brand new battery and it still won’t turn on. Quite a shame it is a hot looking phone.

I never dropped my phone, no water damage. LAME!!

Currently I have the Samsung SGH U600 I loooove it. Never buying LG again.

i tried the thing were you push it into a sofa but it didnt work it cracked the screen

guys, all you gotta do is unscrew the back, you will see chips. read close it says Qualcomm, you need to take an arsol can and blow on it for several seconds, restart your phone, and if that dosent help, send it in, thats what i did to 2 of my chocolate’s it worked!

my chocolate has just gone white. I HATE white chocolate!! I wish I had read reviews before I bought it. The guy in the shop just laughed at me, he knew what was wrong with it before I told them. I think these phones are a joke..

my lg chocolate does EXACTLY the same, screen splits in to 4 smaller ones with the bottom two being black& fuzzy. SO ANNOYING!!!!! !!

Still they shouldn’t just asume No one will use the phone after say a year or so, but I’ve read some people have the problem after just 3 months?

Does anyone know what to do if your LG Chocolate displays “Please use genuine battery” then shuts back off? Mine won’t charge and its only 2 months old. It won’t charge and won’t turn on and its the same battery that came with the phone. Its also the 2nd time its happened to me.

It is ridiculous how LG has turned a blind eye to this. In most cases it is the flex cable, as long as you know you didn’t damage it due to water or impact (dropping the phone). I’ve had 3 different Chocolates. The first 2 were fine- no real problems until I had to claim them. The one I just got from the Verizon insurance company (Asurion) has given me the WSOD- White Screen of Death! What a craptastick job of hardware production. I’ve seen so many replies on a ton of different website. There’s even a video on YouTube as to how to replace the flex cable because of this very issue! What a bunch of garbage.

i’ve had my lg chocolate (older version) replaced twice.
they were all for the same reasons.
the screen either turns completely white.
it won’t turn back on.
or the screen has the blck background w/the verizon
wireless logo on it.

apparently, this isn’t the phone you’d want to buy.
i’ve tried turning it on/off &taking out the battery.
it worked the first two times &then i was a screwed
afterwards when i accidentally turned it off.

now my phone is completely white &i would
love to hear more tips on how to fix it.

btw, i have never dropped it or misused it in anyway.
i’ve read all of the previous posts about a faulty
cord or wire. i just want to know if there is any
other way to fix this properly at home.

I have had FOUR CHOCOLATES in the past ONE YEAR. They have all decided to have blank white screens after a few months. LG CHOCOLATES ARE TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine does the same thing to it goes to a blank white screen and it blinks on and off. This happens when I turn off the phone to charge it. I have been through several of these phones. Also I noticed that the charging unit of the phone is very touchy and won’t plug in all the way. This phone is a pain and a piece of garbage. As of now I am looking at taking it back for another one that will not even last that long, oh well it is free. Next phone I get I will educate myself first.

First you have to press two times C and then OK
After you have to press the botton 5 and then turn it off after 30 minutes turn it on
