A different minimise-to-dock animation built right into Mac OS X

Quoting the Sliver Mac site:

So open your terminal and type the following line:

defaults write com.apple.dock mineffect suck

and hit enter. Now close the terminal, log out and log back in, and voila - your windows … errr… well … ’suck’.

Very cool, I must say. Only slightly different to the usual one, but even a small change like this freshens up what you see a lot.

Mate, you may want to optimise that image, it’ll kill your bandwidth if you get ‘dugg’. It’s 160 kB, could be optimised down to 30 easily. Try ImageWell, it rocks.

Cheers, Mike

You don’t have to logout, just killall Dock to apply changes.

Thanks for the tips, guys.

Also, if you’re terminal-a-phobic, like me, you can use the freeware program OnyX, which will allow you to set this option and many others, in addition to letting you perform a host of optimization and maintenace tasks.

The terminal is so useful, but most forget it is there.
I’m a former linux geek, so me and the terminal have been in bed together for awhile now.
