I just luuuuve taking the [tag]pictures[/tag]. But I often think about which is best for a particular situation - to [tag]shoot[/tag] or not to shoot.
[tag]Celebrate[/tag], don’t [tag]document[/tag].
Here’s the deal: taking [tag]pictures[/tag] takes time, effort and you have to look after a (in my case) big [tag]camera[/tag] all the time. It can stop you from enjoying what’s going on, because you’re focusing on [tag]photography[/tag] too much. You’re not actively enjoying the situation.
For these reasons I didn’t bring my [tag]D50[/tag] along to my [tag]Sixth Form[/tag] Leavers’ [tag]Ball[/tag]. Instead, I had an absolute hoot an’ holler, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. But I did think about my missing [tag]camera[/tag] quite a bit, as if it were a child which had gone missing for the night. It was weird, and I don’t like that feeling at all.
I think the [tag]solution[/tag] to this may be to buy a [tag]slim camera[/tag] with decent [tag]performance[/tag] and use that for these sorts of things, although I’m not sure. It’s a very [tag]personal[/tag] thing, because (for a start) I’m not the kind of person who wants to sit around at a [tag]party[/tag]. I will dance.
So I might go on the market for a nice and slim [tag]camera[/tag] which does the job (cheaply!) I just can’t ignore the fact that I’m missing out on a lot of great [tag]shots[/tag] which will inevitably aid my poor [tag]memory[/tag].
It’s a balance to be reached, I suppose. While you contemplate this balance, bear in mind that 17th of July is non-[tag]photography[/tag] day. I’ll be on a [tag]flight[/tag] [tag]home[/tag] from Mont Pellier to Gatwick, hopefully at relax factor 10 (hey, it’s possible… I’ll be a traveller).
Do tell me if you got that one.

That’s exactly what I had to do when I left for college. I knew I wasn’t going to feel like bringing my bigger camera around a lot. Plus, my need to protect it would’ve got in the way of a lot.
That no photography day sounds interesting. I like to record things but sometimes I need to stop and just have fun. I like to have fun and dance at parties and so a camera becomes a worry. A disposable might be a good idea then.
Have exactly the same ‘problem’ myself Fintan, just about to buy a slimline camera to go travelling with, as I know I won’t want to lug the DSLR around.
All my previous holidays were catogorised before I left into ‘camera’ or ‘non-camera’ events ;o)
