Dech now lives at DreamHost

Moving from one [tag]hosting[/tag] [tag]account[/tag] to another can often be just as [tag]stressful[/tag] as moving houses, but thankfully this time it wasn’t.

The thing is, [tag]blogs[/tag] are quite [tag]simple[/tag] to move around [tag]servers[/tag], which is very nice.

What’s not so nice is that I’m going to have to move [tag]Buster Tests[/tag] to my new [tag]DreamHost[/tag] account soon, and that’s likely to be ugly.

[tag]Bandwidth[/tag]!

One of the very nice things about moving to [tag]DreamHost[/tag] is that my [tag]bandwidth[/tag] has increased by around 100 times (from 10 Gb to 1 TB) and will continue to increase. Of course, this isn’t all going to be used, but it opens the doors for me should I choose to post [tag]video[/tag], etc. I can actually also [tag]stream[/tag] [tag]QuickTime[/tag] [tag]video[/tag], but probably won’t because it can be a [tag]nightmare[/tag].

[tag]Disk[/tag] [tag]Space[/tag]

Additionally, my [tag]disk[/tag] [tag]space[/tag] has increased by 81.92 times from 250 MB (which I was struggling with, frankly) to 20 GB. Thanks to [tag]DreamHost[/tag] providing [tag]WebDAV[/tag], I can plug that into my [tag]Mac[/tag] and use it as a back-up drive! Yay!

The down side

[tag]DreamHost[/tag] have a [tag]horrible[/tag] way of signing up which requires you to fill out a form on paper, trace with a pencil your [tag]credit card[/tag] onto the [tag]form[/tag] and then [tag]fax[/tag] (or for me, [tag]post[/tag]) it off to them in the [tag]states[/tag]. This is [tag]not cool[/tag].

Congratulations on the switch! I’ve been very happy with Dreamhost since I started with them.

They even increase the amount of space and bandwidth you get each week. I’m up to 24.5GB and 1242GB, both of which I never come close to using anyway!

Not sure about the signup. I never had to send anything to the states, maybe they changed some stuff with international customers.

Hopefully you got the referal too ;)

Are you serious? I opened my Dreamhost account a month or two back and all I needed to do is to put in my credit card number onto the online form.

But then again I live in US, so perhaps it was so easy because of that. I can’t imagine why would it be different if you are ordering from outside the country…

Same, I’ve been with Dreamhost for roughly a year and didn’t have to do anything other than pump in CC details into their online form.

I used this link to get $77 off my plan (which I assume still works) although I’m barely scraping the surface of possibilities Dreamhost offers at present.

I’ve been with dreamhost for just over a year now. Used a promo code from the Big Noob which took off $110. Do you live in the UK Dech? Cus I do and I just used a regular credit card. Weird.
