I was always interested in finding out what UKNova, a British TV torrent site, had to offer.
After a good few weeks of using it (I can’t remember when I signed up), and a lot of traffic both ways, I think I like it.
Signing up
It’s the tricky part which isn’t so tricky.
UKNova only has 75,000 users registered at once. After 42 days of not doing anything, they’re taken off of the system and a space opens up. You need to pop into that space, so the best technique for getting in is just to go to the registration page every day or so and see if you can do it.
I didn’t have to wait too long to get a space.
Ratio tracking is a good thing
This is where how much data you’ve uploaded and downloaded is monitored automatically. A ratio of more than one means you’ve uploaded more than you’ve downloaded. A ratio under one means you’re downloading more than you’re uploading.
Unless you have a very good connection, it might feel easier to download loads and upload only a tiny bit. But as with all torrents, it’s not helpful at all. Remember, you can leave on your computer overnight to do the sharing.
UKNova have a nice little scheme going where you get to download the newest torrents faster if you share more. I think it works very nicely as an incentive.
Content and torrents
Very good, it is. New UK TV shows which you can’t buy on DVD or VHS.
My favourite little thing so far has to be the series sets of comedy shows like Green Wing and Monkey Dust.
Downloading
Thanks to the ratio system and people who have massive connections seeding, download speeds frequently meet my maximum speed of 2 Mbps, and if they don’t go that fast they’re not far behind. This is really great if you want to watch something quickly.
Overall
Brilliant.
UK nova is indeed excellent. I use it an awful lot, and my daughter had downloaded the entire catalogue of Grange Hill from it !
wiht my Blueyonder 10mb connection sharing is easy peasy.
uknova……RIP
Great while it lasted.
The only mistake in this article is that UKNova has a maximum limit of 30,000 members at one time, not 75,000.
I seriously been refreshing the page for two weeks and nothing, i am gettin desperate.
