How the Nintendo Revolution will work

Google Video has a great little movie which shows how a user plays with the game using the new ‘remote control’ controller.

Screen grab of the movieAlthough I did think ‘wot?‘ when I first saw the controller, from the few demos I have seen on the net it is starting to look like it could be a really, really powerful thing. The different ways you can see it being used in this video are only a few possibilities, and even then they are in demo games which (mostly) only show off the remote. I love the idea of just turning it and using it like steering wheel, and getting two and making them your handguns.

Very clever, Nintendo. They’ve really innovated here, and I hope it works out for them.

Looking at the other side of the market, I tried out the xBox 360 the other day while shopping. While I though the graphics were quite nice, the controller was just too much for me. My brother seemed to be able to take to it very quickly, but I don’t find two joysticks to be an easy way to control a game.

Yeah…it’ll definitely be interesting to see how it turns out. I’ve been looking forward to the Revolution since I first heard about .

I have seen only two games work with dual joy sticks. Both were tank games. I could use joystick plus button in console games but not those wing-shaped things that are so common.

I have enough issues with hand-eye coordination as it is without these dual joystick contraptions. Playing Halo on xbox with them certainly demonstrated that.
