The iMac’s hidden IR sensor

Apple iMac G5 with a hidden IR portOn reading some documentation about the iMac, I finally found out where the IR sensor is.

Cleverly enough, it’s hidden away behind the Apple logo on the front of the machine.

This is absolutely great. I was thinking where on earth the sensor might be, especially because they’re usually black. I was considering perhaps the iSight lens might have one hidden behind it, but no; the Apple logo makes far more sense.

You sure? I heard that the IR detector was in the camera spot.

My bad. That’s just something that was assumed when the iMac first came out.

I did too - it seems that IR dectectors don’t have to be black any more :)

On my 24-inch current model imac i have a greenish rounded rectangle on the black border over the apple logo- that is where its locater or it wouldn’t work when i put the remote right on the spot would it! Unusually, the top outline of the remote is shaped and sized like the infrared detector
