The iMac has landed

I recieved my new 17″ iMac today from the bizarrely rapid TNT man, and I have to say I’m impressed.

Just a brief post here:

  • Front Row is good, but going into Front Row is a near orgasmic experience.
  • Installing applications is both easy and hard; especially when no one tells you how to do it properly. I had a little case of white drive icon every time I started up MSN messenger (fixed it now, though).
  • These things sure are powerful!
  • I’ve had three fatal crashes already. Fatal as in ‘hold down the power button’. Unfortunate, but I hope the incident won’t be repeated (I think it had something to do with Tomato Torrent…)
  • The Mighty Mouse is indeed mighty, and there is a fourth button that slipped past me before… pressing down on the ball and taking the shell with it will, by default, display the dashboard. Nice!
  • I don’t think there are enough U
  • SB 2 ports. All of mine are used up already.

  • No dead pixels! Yay!
  • The remote is amazing; light and quite nice to look at, although the magnet in the iMac could be a little stronger (just a little mind you).
  • Damn Apple for switching the @ and the “!!!!
  • Photobooth is… well, see for yourself:

If the @ is above the 2 and the ” is next to the enter key then you have a US style keyboard. I have always bought my laptops from the USA (used to be a lot cheaper) and they all have that arrangement, but Apple might be doing it like that for everyone just to appear different.

Ah you Brits and your keyboard-related idiosyncracies.

Hmmm, it looks like your mac is effecting you in many ways (according to photobooth). :)

Photobooth runs horribly slow on my Mac Mini + USB Camera. :(

[...] Last night I think I reached a new level for peak flow of productivity on my new iMac. As you can see, I had a lot going on when I was installing that WordPress installation. Thank the Lord for Exposé. [...]
