iMac update

I’ve been using my iMac for nearly two weeks now, and it’s starting to feel like home.

Quite rapidly, doing stuff in OS X is becoming second-nature, and it’s nice to have that confidence back again.

iMac G5 with iSightThe applications I know and love are back with me and doing what they do with their usual elegance. I feel I have the same control over everything (perhaps even more) just as I did on Windows.

Today I used another Windows machine just as quickly as I always did, so I can’t be losing any knowledge of that OS (yet). I know that when Microsoft release Vista, I’ll really want to try it. Surely they can’t release a new OS without any highlights to try. But I’m not too worried about that right now.

Yes, the new iMac is doing very nicely indeed. I’m still not using the iSight as much as I would want to, but I suppose I should wait ’til uni for that to become useful.

Just to give you a quick example of the level of quickness I am back up to, last night I designed, published and bought a book as a Christmas present to close friends using InDesign and Lulu.com. It was all very smooth. Still, I’m loving PDF handling on the Mac; it’s surprising how much that has affected me already. It’s nothing but a delight to open a PDF now!

Front Row is great, and it’s simply lovely to be able to operate it from the bed. Plus, the fact that all of the components are in the screen means I can adjust its position on the desk to suit what I want to do, which usually means bringing it right forward when you want to sit on the other side of the room for Front Row.

Cool! Sounds like you are delighted with it.
