Tonnes of RSS, AJAX , a killer design, concept and (by the looks of it) execution should make this a really great, law-defying hit. Yes, I am really looking forward to the launch of this beauty.

The Bittorrent Protocol is not illegal in the United States, nor is its usage, as many linux distro’s are spread via Bittorrent. But obtaining copyrighted materials via any method is illegal(Yes this includes buying bootlegs off the friendly chinese man on the corner)

What is not-legal is the distribution of copyright material. It has nothing to do with the appz or protocol.

I belive based on the betamax act.. that you can freely tape and share any show that is shown “over the air”..atlot of shows are coming to the net.. some free..
I dont think you can make money off it though which can be argued if you have even one form of advertising revenue.
I really want this site to be useful and great like I expect, but I think that such a site which is so blatantly geared towards copyright infringement won’t get too far…

From what I’ve seen in the U.S., it’s legal to purchase copyrighted material from anyone who has the legal right to sell it. That’s what makes allofmp3.com so attrractive. Per the messed-up Russian copyright laws (dodgy though it may sound), they can legally sell any song by any artist anywhere for whatever they want.
You’ll notice that the RIAA makes no mention whatsoever of allofmp3.com on their site. I’m sure they’re trying to get the Russian law(s) changed, but I don’t know what kind of success they’re having.
If this could be set up in a similar fashion legally, it might be tough for “them” to shut it down.

What if they leave the commercials? i mean, you can fast forward ala TiVo but still.

Nice site (and blog) mate! I think the loophole that http://www.uknova.co.uk can get around is that none of the content is for sale. Saying that I havn’t been able to sign up yet, just read about it. I know the BBC allows for free distribution of its shows but what happens in America since HBO shows Rome but the BBC show it here. So many legal issues, so little time :S

Yes, this does look incredible. However from the looks of it, this is clearly VERY illegal. So, that is why I think they must have something up their sleeve. Not sure what it is yet, but I can’t imagine they would spend that much time on a beautiful site and publicity without any (or tons of) consideration of the legal aspects. This is the right idea if it can be done legally- but based on the fact that APPLE is having a hell of a time just getting a few ABC shows on itunes, I can promise this is going to be a tough fight.

This was what the Supreme Court’s Grokster decision was about… you’re not only designing a tool that’s *capable* of piracy (which isn’t so bad), you’re *marketing it* as a pirate’s tool. (True, doesn’t apply directly to the UK, but something to think about.)

My take on this internet TV debate is this: American television companies will find a way to compete on a global level with various other companies who are embracing new technology or they will be left behind. Obviously companies need to find a successful business model similar to iTunes but Pandora’s Box is open. If they choose to continue their 1950’s business practices they will be left. I’m going to get the content I enjoy from the easiest (not always legal) source I can. I really don’t care if it is distributed through bittorrent, http downloads, or some other technology just as long as I have access to the content that I want. I’m not saying that I choose to steal programs because it is the l33t thing to do. I envision television content that is personalized to my tastes, not what some stuff executive thinks I should watch. I’m excited to see services like Tioti.com. Hopefully this will continue to develop and prosper.

Just remember, downloading pirated (copyrighted) content off the internet is not illegal in the US, only providing the content is illegal. i.e. I can download all I want, as long as I dont share it, which is where torrent sites and most peer2peer networks have problems, almost all require you to share the content you are downloading.
I’m 13 and i use bittorrent to try games, if they are poo i don’t buy them.
