Apple’s nearly silly student discounts

This evening I arranged the package I’ll be purchasing from Apple over the telephone. I’m waiting for a cheque to clear before I go ahead.

The discounts I receive as a further education student are almost shocking, especially when coupled with over-the-telephone discounts and buy-with-a-Mac discounts.

For example, AppleCare, a great-sounding three-year extended warranty, will cost me £60. That’s £80 off the online store price of £140! Mad! It sort of makes me think about how much Apple might be over-charging people, but right now I don’t think I’m being ripped off. No, that feeling will have to wait about five years.

One thing I do like about phoning Ireland, though, is that they’re never going to think that Fintan Darragh is an odd name. Which is just great with me - I spelled it out automatically over the phone but I really don’t think I’ll have to next time.
